Button found on the Beach

Found this button on the Beach at Pass Christian in Mississipppi, (Not the place to be with a pulse unit) Dug up chair legs, and tons of other trash. Any thoughts as to what it is? I was thinking of cleaning it with vineger, but not sure if that is a bad idea or not. The back is hollow.

well the photo is a bit blurry but I see a eagle with spread out wings (similar to a union army button ) --any letter on his chest area? a better photo would help greatly
any back marks ? looks very old maybe even pre civil war -- say 1820 -30's hard to say without better photos --bad ole eyes dang it

I think you gotcherself a nice old blazer or sport coat button (top).

Waterbury Button Company makes a similar one even today.

This is just a suggestion, keep looking if you feel it's too different, but I'm betting non-military, and certainly NOT American.

Yes... the wreath is a nice added touch . You can never have too many symbols jammed into one button.

dang jim your good my eyes couldn't make it out clearly -- seems fairly spot on except the wreath --older model most like had the wreath --newer on doesn't -- great ID --you da man

Looks like you have the top part of a two-piece button. The back would have the shank.
