button found near alamo

i found this button about a mile west of the present day alamo. it was at 8 inches and found with my dfx. i have no clue as to what it is, the letter on it appears to be the letter "g". would this be a boot hook? and what would the age be? i sure hope someone can help me with this one!

It looks like iron?

I think you can rule out button... but I dunno what it is...

yes, it is iron, when i first found it i thought it was a bent tack and almost tossed it.

Maybe a piece of saddle hardware? Perhaps the "G" stands for Gathright, an old saddler.
