Hey guys- found this while simply scanning the area with my eyes (obviously cant md on the land) The button was found next to some previously fallen brick from some slave quarters while visiting a famous local plantation. The button seems to be two piece stamped button with a broken shank. A gentleman wearing a large tophat..he has a wagon wheel next to him and the words 'Mechanic' are below him in a very fancy script..any ideas on how this would be in charleston sc? A historian told me that he had remembered hearing of the "mechanics" being a group of workers that built most of charlestown during the civil war era. he said they were almost in a brotherhood such as the longshorman workers-ive searched for details on these mechanics and come up short--any help would be great

Yes it fits the early 1900 overall type of button design. I guess the back is rusted out.

Here are some others. They are pretty cool. I dont see yours but I see a "Mechanics Garments" button.
