Found another button in the yard. Can anyone tell me more about it? I don't know much about buttons, but it looks military. This yard has yielded some mid to late 1800's finds plus some newer stuff. Still soaking it. Any other ideas on how to gently remove the dirt caked in the corners of the raised features? That is an eagle on the front with some red showing on the bird. The back has only two holes. The hole in the middle is from wearing through the metal.

The design doesnt look old to me, and I am pretty certain its not military. I am thinking 20th century blazer type button. There is a similar design in the link below.

I agree it may not be old or military, but the linked design is not very close. The bird is flying to the left and holding something. Sorry the picture is not better. Does the coloring = not old?

I agree the eagle design doesnt match, as I was just providing an example of a blazer button with an eagle design. I think the two-holed shank attachment is modern era, and certainly if the red on the front is leftover paint of some sort, that would make it a modern button. I hope some of the button experts will chime in to offer more thoughts.

Almost looks like the Anheuser Busch logo from 1872-1890's.
