I was digging a permission we recently found out was an old stagecoach stop. I got a decent signal and pulled a nail. As I’m covering my hole I see this button in the dirt. Cleaned up pretty good and seems to be in great shape. It’s nonmetallic, maybe wood? I assume it’s old but clueless about buttons. Anybody have any idea of age? 96FEF1B7-E797-4ADF-8EE5-F6619D422831.webp

Plastic maybe? I would think wood would deteriorate. I'm no expert though, just a thought.

Looks like it might be a hard rubber button. Is there a backmark on it? They can date back to the 1840s-50s. Do a search for Charles Goodyear.

Some interesting reading there, all news to me. Nothing quite matched up but there were some similar looking ones. Thanks for the info
