Soooo... I found this neat looking button.

I don't think it's actual military issue, but thought I'd share and ask if anyone had any other info.

You’re correct about it being not actually military, for the reasons in the link below, as well as that the construction of the back I presume to be of the self-shank variety, which haven’t been used on U.S. Navy buttons. I’m not sure specifically what period these were popular, beyond that they are 20th century.
