Button Backmark, Crown, any meaning ?

I don't know much about buttons, just curious if the crown means anything.

No doubt it's probably common, but it is the only one I have like it, out of a hundred or so.

BTW the front is toast.

have another with "Prince of Wales feathers" and one with calligraphy type of writing on it.

On those early-1800s-era 1-piece buttons, that particular crown means the button was manufactured in Britain and its gold-gilting's quality conforms to the British Government's official standards.

Crown, Prince of Wales, Eagles, were all ploys to help sell their plain fronted buttons in the early 1800s, to put it as simply as I can..... guess you could say patriotism....
