Here is a button with no markings but an old area (found a musket ball) nearby. Very rounded and thin. The bonus item I'm sure is pretty old. Has a hole in one side and seemed to be sort of fancy.

For the button i would say late 18th c.-1820s... More then likely early 1800s... Here is a similar button I dug a few months ago out of a trash pit that was from an 1815-1830 house site...

donkarlos,

The "bonus item" is a Colonial period brass pommel end, for attaching a brass bail type handle to wooden furniture.

HutSiteDigger is right about spot on with the button. :icon_thumright:
There are exceptions to every rule of course, and on occasion a button style that is a few decades either way defying the general guidelines, yet I''l place my bet on early 1800's.

Why are you "staying out of this one"? when you bring up a valid point...

Thanks - I'm hoping its old but hard to tell. Some kind of a button though.

Blurry pic. I dont know if its a button or large tack but it seems we had a heated discussion about these years ago. Im staying out of this one.

Is the center iron?

Wow, that thread was heated.. a lot of good information though.
The first pictures in that thread look exactly like mine (which I had trouble photographing).
I'll have to check it with a magnet still, but it has that exact dome shape.

That's it! Wow, I never thought that would get id'ed.
Now I'm wondering about this site..way out in the woods with no houses around or anything.

.
Im afraid to even read it. But I remember it vaguely and that is why I posted it. I thought it might help but its probably just confusing the issue. If you put it to vote you may get 50% button and 50% tack but it sure looks exactly like Moes find and the large tacks posted..

Yeah let's not even call this one. Could be a tack..could be a button. The age is what's most important to me in figuring out the site where it was found. I appreciate all the input from everyone.
