Hi, no it is not my 1st time out. I have been MD'ing since the middle of January. Thanx for looking.

Eileena

Eileena, welcome to TNet!

I'm not sure about the button, but that cross is nice! I wonder if the person who lost it was walking around with the chain just hanging around his neck, only to fall off somewhere it the vicinity? You or someone may pick up a gold chain later!

Let us know what the jeweler says!

can't help on the button, although it looks like its off a mans coat. The cross is fabulous by the way.

from a fellow newbie, Hi and welcome. Congratulations on the cross there that is truely a spectacular find.

is there anything on the back of the button?

Great Finds Eileena. Please post a pic of the backside of the button so that we could further help you determine if it is old or not....How deep was the button?

Ahhh, the wood chips....they always give up something worthwhile! Good looking cross (hope it's gold) and a nice old button, thanks for sharing.

P.S. Play around with your photo editor and try out the crop feature, it will make your pictures look much better.

Very pretty cross! Congrats and welcome to Tnet!

Hi everyone, thanx for the welcome, and the replies. The back of the button is reallyrusted. The loop is broken off in the back. I will post a backside pic later. I found it down about 3.5 inches. I was surprised when it came out of the ground. It came up as p/tab.

The diamonds in the cross are real ;D. Value is around 250-300. It was maybe an inch down in the chips. I looked for the chain but couldn't find it. I spent a long time in the area I found the cross, and really checked out the play area.

Thanx for looking.

Congrats on the gorgious gold cross. Such a great find!

I have found quite a few crosses and the chains are hardly ever found with them. I guess the owner breaks the chain and the pendant drops off immediately and hides in the chips but the chain can either stay around the neck still or is more easily seen on top of the chips and found by eye.

Awesome find, welcome to TNet and this very addictive hobby.

Smiles!

Wow, what a great day you had, really like the cross. What kind of detector are you using? Some detectors have a really hard time finding a small gold chain. Just a suggestion, take a small gold chain and see if your detector will pick it up. Same thing holds true if you trying to find a gold ring, or a gold anything. Always try something like the item you are trying to find with your detector. Try all the settings, all metal, jewelry, coin modes. You will be surprised at what a ring or small gold chain will come in at on your detector. A small ladies ring on most detectors, sounds like a pull tab. Guess that's why some guys have a hard time finding them, because they don't pick up pull tabs or nickels.

Good Luck, go back and look again, you just might find that chain.

Hi All, I am using a Whites Prizm II. I will be going back as soon as the rain stops. I will try your suggestion ringfinder, thanx

Hey, that's what I've been using! Just recently I had a signal in the wood mulch and couldn't find the target for the longest time..I grabbed some of the chips and the target was in my hand, but I still couldn't see it! It turned out to be a button snap that was about 1/8" across!

Nat
