Hi all,
dug this Tombac at a farmhouse site.
I've seen a lot of tombacs, all plain, all wire shanks.
this one appears earlier, with it's dandy type deco, and drilled wedge shank.
anyone seen similar, or have a possible date range?
27 MM
While I'm posting, I'm gonna add others,
looks like it had blowholes, floral design with nipple.
Lastly, what I believe is a 'Plain' nipple button.
Any information or date range is Appreciated!
thanks for looking & HH

That Tombac is in really nice shape Herbie! :icon_thumright:

Sorry, but I have very little experience with nipples! ;D

Hope I've been of assistance to you! :tongue3:

Hessian Buttons or tombacs are from circa 18th and 19th century Large contingents of German troops, commonly lumped together under the term "Hessians," were hired by the British during the Revolution to fight in North America. Buttons from all of these regiments were plain, and without any sort of unit designation. Flat-faced with a very pronounced boss on the backs, into which an iron-wire eye was anchored, these buttons originally were made of tombac (copper/zinc alloy), or thin brass, depending on the color of the regiments' metal.

All date, or can date, around the mid 1700s so that's no doubt the age of your site. I'd be hunting a spot like that pretty hard.

Thanks everyone
I am waiting for the underbrush to die off here,
pretty sure these structures are built on older foundations.
I was able to get the button by pushing my coil straight down through the vines.
hoping for some more goodies here

Your right IP, & sorry about that Herbie.I over looked that it was the same button before the last. Looked like the cone/gator :icon_scratch: pewter type buttons that come from my oldest type sites here.Been trying to get my relic room set up.But I'm out of places to set things so going to have to build some new shevles. Still have boxes of things to go.Man does this stuff accumulate. :D
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

I think some date over many years, but if you take the average I think it dates the site about mid. 1700s.

That's quite a room you have going! Some day I plan to do something similar.

Great displays Pete!
I have all my finds in folders & flips stored in boxes, at least they are organized by type....
look closely at your dognose pewter spoon handle, it may have a bust of
William III on the front, also is there a letter mark on the back?
You may recall I posted 3 as described, they could have been a popular style.
HH to You! :hello2:

Thanks guy's. When I stand back & think that these are just some & other things that i've threw away. It's mind blowing how many times I've bent down & dug a hole.I know you guy's know what I mean. It's just a trip to think that for each item I look at equals one bend down & hole dug. :o Just another way of looking at things.
Best to you guy's,
