I see you have received several responses here are the stops, I don't know California very well but I'm certain you can find these locations from Fort Yuma to SFO. If you use GOOGLE and search under OVERLAND STAGE TO CALIFORNIA you will find the rootsweb site that has a nice map as well, although it mainly details from Missouri to California, the map is nice and clickable;

I can only dream of getting out to one or two of these sites one day. Seems the older and more responsible you get, the less you make time for fun stuff like getten out to the desert. I'm hoping to get some small time out there during the holiday break! 8)

i know old post but i know the butterfield also went through or by el paso, as stated above. wagon trails are awesome for relics and the what nots

I have visited the locations of all 160 plus Stations of the original 1858 Butterfield Overland Mail from St. Louis to San Francisco. I have documentation, directions, pictures, maps and GPS coordinates of each station. I am looking for local people along the route to add anything additional they know. Let me know what station or stations you are interested in.
