Very busy weekend Tnetters, took huge advantage of the great weather and hit a couple different spots, one new and one..not so new. After our last weekend camping 2 weeks ago, I spotted a fairgrounds I've never been to while driving home, and got there this weekend. First keeper was the 63 Rosie, and the second..the total heart-stopper..the 1916 Merc. Though tarnished, careful wiping revealed the "1916"...yes..I got shivers. Turning it over though..did NOT reveal the ever-so-sought "D". Bummer....Another interesting item was the little..bell?..button?..Just one of the few things I need help i.d'ing. Then the last LITTLE guy in question is the very small disc pictured with the wheatie. The wife says she can make out a design under the patina, I hope my pic shows you enough to go on. It rang up 81-82 on the ATP. The second site..my old go-to soccer field, where I dug FOUR RINGS..a nice, little silver one, an old brass one, a junker and my fave-the one with the white around the outside, gold colored outside and edges, anyone have info on that one? Then the brooch with the picture of 2 little boys and 2 buttons..one has a crown on it and the other flat button with "RICHLAND GILT" on the back, and a couple other odds and ends. Sorry for the long post, but I'm excited for feedback on my mystery finds..thx very much..Ddf

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

The button with the crown-is it made of brass? Can you post a picture of the back side?

Very nice haul DDF.

I like the little silver ring.

Well played sir!

I have found some foreign coins as small as the disc you have pictured with the wheatie, you might give pics of both sides and we can see if we can pic out any details that might I.D. it, if it is a coin.

Nice finds. The small disk could be a button maybe missing the shank and very worn or corroded. Maybe see if you can clean it up more or if you can make out if theres a mark/indent where a shank could have been.

Yes, I believe it is brass, it's also concave and I believe there's no writing or symbols on the back but I'll get a pic of the back posted soon..thx very much for your interest, ddf.

Backoftheboat, I don't believe it was a button, there's no evidence of ever having a shank..it screams coin, and I want it to be, but am bamboozled! The wife and I THINK we see a design through the patina, and the other side shows nothing obvious...so the next step would be to try to clean some of the crust off to get a peek underneath..so how would you suggest doing that without ruining what is already there? That's the reason I haven't messed with it yet, and I thank you VERY much in your interest and your offer to help..ddf

Thx Stef..like I replied to Backoftheboat, I doubt it was a button, but now with the encouragement of others here, I'm going to attempt to clean it up to see what's under there, just not sure how to without ruining it. .suggestions? Thx again, ddf.

Cool beans! Tons of nice finds. Keep the it up and happy hunting!

Great hunt and quite the assortment of finds! I am not sure but I think the ring with the white band around it is a mood ring.

I'm not sure of a good cleaning method I know a lot use lemon juice. Not sure if that is the gentlest method.Maybe warmed peroxide?
