I had to take a trip about 8 hours away for a week long class on a new computer system we will be using at work. I of course pre-scouted the banks in the area.
Got out of class early on Monday and decided to check some of the rural towns. First town had 4 banks:
Bank 1 had $60 in a bag in the vault and 1 loose. I got the "Do you have an account here?" question. I was honest and said no. First she said she couldn't sell them to me, then said hold on a minute. She went to talk to someone and came back and told the other teller he wasn't in his office but she was going to sell them to me anyway to get rid of them. Ended up being a skunk.
Bank 2 had $2.50, skunk.
Bank 3 had $50 in a bag in the vault and $13 in her drawer. Almost exactly the same scenario as at the first bank. No account so she went to talk to someone. The woman she talked to said go ahead and sell them to me. She got the bag and then dumped the ones in her drawer on the counter to count them. I saw a couple Franklins and a couple silver Kennedys. She put those in the bag with the others and sold them to me. She never gave the Bennies a second look. Total was a 52-D, 57-D, 62-D, 63, 64, 64-D, 67, and a moldy looking 04-S.
Bank 4 closed at 3pm.
Next little town had 2 banks:
Bank 1 had $5.50, skunk.
Bank 2 had none.
Last town had 1 bank. $20 worth, skunk.
Tuesday we got out late and I went to a larger town but only had time to go to 2 banks and a Credit Union.
Bank 1 had none.
Bank 2 had $10, skunk.
The Credit Union had $685 in a bag, mixed hand rolled and loose. I asked if they had someone who brought in a bunch of halves and she tole me they had just built up over time. She also said there were some old ones in the bag because one of their trustees cashed some in before he passed away. That got me excited to get back to the hotel and see what I got. No Walkers or Franklins, but I did get:
4x65, 2x66, 12x67, 11x68-D, 2x69-d, 1x 76-S Silver Proof, 1x83-S Proof, and a SBA dollar.
Wednesday I stopped at seven banks.
Bank 1 had $1.50, skunk.
Bank 2 had $60 in had rolls in the vault and $6 in her drawer. Another Franklin in a teller drawer. I ended up with 1x58-D, 2x64-D, 1x66, and a Gold Plated 98-P.
Bank 3 had $2.50, skunk.
Bank 4 had $51 in had rolls, skunk.
Bank 5 had $1.00, skunk.
Bank 6 closed at 3pm.
Bank 7 closed at 4pm.
Thursday no CRHing.
Friday I went to see Watchman with a friend of mine that lives there. I stopped at 2 bank on my way to the theater.
Bank 1 was the one that closed at 3pm on Wednesday. I'm so glad I decided to stop in there. They had $400 in hand rolls.
2x1945 Walkers, 1x1959-D Franklin, 4x64, 7x64-D, 11x67, 15x68-D, and 7x69-D. Almost every rolls had some silver in it.
Bank 2 was a Bank of America with $200 in fed rolls, skunk.
None of the places I stopped gave me any indication that there was anybody CRHing in this area, which really surprised me. There were a ton of banks that I didn't get a chance to go to. I think I may try to take a week this summer and go back down there so I can CRH and see what I find.
