There are two branches of the same bank in my area, one branch has a coin counter and the other does not.

I chose this bank because they open at 8:30am weekdays and Saturdays.

Part I:
I went into the coin counter branch to open a dump account told the banker about my situation of dump halves on Saturdays, she said its OKAY as long as the coin counter guy is there Saturday but normally the counter is closed Saturdays.

I asked her to put this memo into my account which she said she did.

I went there on 2 separate Saturdays and the branch says counter is closed Saturdays, I spoke to the banker and she basically said its their bank policy and she's really sorry.

Should I speak to the branch manager to ask for Saturday coin counting? What is the best way to approach that?

Part II:

I then have been dumping my rolled coins in rubber bands into the other branch too frequently, about 2 mornings in a row a week(to avoid the same teller since they each only appear 1 morning a week)

Went there exactly 10 times for 39 days, and unloaded exactly $4,420, averaging $334 a time, except I unloaded $1,080 on 12/31, all visits were dimes/quarters/halves mixed.

On my 10th time today, second day in the week, the teller told me the branch will not take my coins anymore because the coins costs them all too much to ship out and then took my $375 rolled coins for the last time.

I could see they are annoyed now because they usually have a smile with me before and now they don?t want to even call me up the window this week. :BangHead:

This branch was perfect timing and location for me right before my commute to work by trains in the morning.

Should I try to talk to the branch manager and work out a maximum dump allowance a week or should I just ditch this bank entirely?

No other banks open 8:30am and I have $6,000 balance in this bank.

I think you are dumping too often at this bank. I never dump more than once a week at a bank - and at many of my dump banks it is only every other week. That being said, talk to the manager and see if you can work out a maximum allowance. If they cut you off completely, then close your account with that bank and move on.

Something to also consider - start bringing your rolled coin to the branch with the counter on Saturdays. Maybe if you annoy them with rolled coin they can work out an agreement to open the counter at specific times.

My thought is that most every branch without a counter will take coins in rolls. Just find another one or 2 and use them all less frequently. Open up a Bank of America, or Wells Fargo or other large chain so you are bound to run into them wherever you go.
That is my thought-
Dumping shouldnt be a problem if you are willing to roll it(I am not)

#1. It's not going to do any good at all to ask the bank to change "policy".
Once they use that word....game is over.

#2. I'd judge that you are using a bank that has a low tolerance for dumping and you have simply reached the limit. Most of my dump banks take $1000 to $1500 without any complaining or "laying down the law".

And I will offer some un-asked-for advice:
As CRH'ers we have to alter our method to fit the rules of the game.....and the banks make the rules.

Keep on Rollin' !

Two things we must consider as CRHers when dumping?

Do we cost too much time of the bank?

Do we cost too much money of the bank?

Some banks have flat rate with armour truck company. They pay a weekly fee for whatever amount of coins. Some banks (in small town and rural area) pay a variable fee based on rolls of coins. Looks to me that your second bank is "variable fee" type of bank. Go around to look for another bank with "flat rate". It is nice if the situation fits you but you can't be only thinking of yourself. This is a just hobby for most of us. For guys living a very small town or rural area it is not as good a hobby as guys living in big cities (especially in those cities have a Fed Reserve branch).

This bank is a large chain bank, it constantly advertises interests 5 times the national average.

I cant believe its a low tolerance branch given the amount of shops and population in my area. its the second biggest town in one of the biggest cities.

Geoff the only time its game over is if they close your account which they have the right to do keep in mind.

But that being said, they cannot not accept your deposit if you have an account in good standing whether its 10 cents or a duffle bag full of dollar bills or 3000 in rolled coins or coin lock bags.

They are trying to deflect you, discourage you whatever.

Just talk to the bank manager , if they grief you ask for the name and number of the customer service manager and their district manager. OCC regulations say that accounts cannot be discriminated against for any reason. i.e. if I have a regular account in good standing I can make full use of all priveleges the bank offers for that type of account.

But as I said above they may choose to close your account at some point, thats the risk we take rolling large!

Don't give up!

The teller at the one branch did say the coin counter wasn't often open on Saturdays. You probably should of found out how many Saturdays it was opened. Once a month, once every two months, depends on how many homemade brownies you bring the tellers.

I can't do large volumes, but when I can afford to buy a box of halves, what I don't keep goes to my mortgage. (I really don't like the bank who bought my mortgage.) I do have them wrapped since they don't have a coin counter.

"5x higher interest" would be the clue. They are saving on Armour Truck cost. Some new small banks/CUs claim to be "coinless". When you cash a check, they give back paper cash and put anything decimal in your checking amount. They don't care for small business owners. Some will have a coin counting machine for customers to deposit coins but they don't take rolls. Of course they want to pay the Armour Truck company as less as possible. So they won't tolerate hugh dumping. However, you may have a better chance to buy their "bags" from their machine from these new model type of banks/CUs.

Good for you that you are living a large populated area. There are definitely some "flat rate" banks there.

This is the best response IMO. Be up front with the manager about your hobby, and ask him how much is reasonable to dump. He should be intelligent enough to know that if you can't dump at his bank, you'll find another bank and give them your business.

I also agree with taking rolled coin on Saturdays. That will likely cause them to start up the coin counter real quick!

Open up a couple more accounts at other banks, and see how it goes with them. That's what I did, and it has worked out quite well for me. I bring the real nice ones breakfast (box of bagels) at least once a month, and they never seem to mind when I dump over 1k. Where there is a will there will always be a way.

I have never had bank accounts before, but with this hobby it is nessasary. When opening said accounts I have told them this, I am a coin collector, I enjoy looking thru 3-4000 in coins each week. Is this a problem to exchange? They then explained main branch takes bags, other branches only exchange rolls any amount is fine. Jackpot!! 1 main and 3 branches.

Like a couple have said before, but I would emphasize, if you live in a larger town, there must be many banks to choose from. Open up more accounts to get you the ability to dump at more quantity of banks less often. I work in a medium to larger town and we have somewhere around 30 banks. I just opened up an account with a new bank this week which gives me 5 more branches to work with either getting coins or dumping. I have hit up 3 of the branches already as they are across the street from one of my other banks that I have an account with.

Thank you all kindly for the thoughtful insights.

I never hesitate to have more banks, it was that this branch is super convenient for me in the morning. It was wishful thinking that the smiles from teller meant "we welcome your rolled deposits." Lesson learned.
