How in the world would one go about burying a train - especially in a hurry????

Manufactured or Accidental Landslide would be my guess.

Thats my guess too... Maybe back it up into a mountain tunnel and blow the mountain so that it makes the appearance that there is no opening... But the tracks would have led up to it.... Even if they took the tracks out there would have been able to see the holes left from the railroad ties...

Heard of a couple that were de-railed in bayous, swamps, or rivers but not buried.

I would help you look, but in this heat it would be my luck I would find the darned thing ;D
P.S. I just saw a robin picking up a worm with a potholder.

Does anyone have back issues of the magazine "Treasure?" December 1980 - on page 56, they tell the story about 25 boxcars of Confederate Arms. The indexed source I have says "Henderson" next to it. I don't know if that's Henderson, NC (not too far from Roanoke Rapids) or if it's the author's last name.

Best,
Darren

heard of two trains buried by Confederates...both were derailed at long embankments and covered over...neither near roanoke rapids though....also a story on a disappearing boxcar....i know where that is, and its not in roanoke rapids either...........gldhntr

ever hear of the one in the Everglades? ...supposedly left there fully loaded by the Confedrates. Seems that would be a hard thing to hide with having to lay track and all. Why not just unload it and hide the cargo? The stories don't always make sense :P

Things that make you wonder....but most tales hold some bit of truth....you just gotta figure it out!

There was a train that was buried in a tunnel that collapsed along a river in VA...I think Richmond Hills or Richmond Church Hill....something like that ...it was on the news not long ago...was from the 1920's I think

Its amazing what they did with old cars from trains. here in RI about 5 years ago, there was a fire at a small local diner. When they put it out, they discovered that the "diner" was actually an old caboose. The exterior had been dressed up. Not sure what happened to the car, but i think it when to a local museum for restoration....
