I just found my first war nickel in the last few months. I was combing through loads of change hunting for wheats and found a war nickle. I didn't even realize what it was at first. The mint mark really stood out, I did some research and it panned out. ;D

Felt pretty good until I get a call from one of my brothers that works at a video store. He called me up and said that he found an unusual dime.......turns out it was a mercury :o. Man was I jealous.

1964 was one of the largest mintages for nickels. Over 1 Billion nickels were minted that year in Philadelphia and over 1.7 Billion were minted in Denver. No other year had mintages of even 3,000,000 until 1971. That is why they are one of the most common dates to find.
