Howdy All, I picked up this watch at a local thrift store today for $1. The face has "Bulova, 23 Jewel, Self Winding, Six Adjustments" on a sunburst face. On the back it reads... Bulova / Stainless Steel Back/ Shock Resistant/ A938385 over L6/ Anti-Magnetic/ Self Winding/ Waterproof. I am not very educated about watches and am wondering if anyone can tell me the year and possible value? It does work but seems to run a little slow and the crystal is scratched. Thanks Steve

1955 I think. See the link below, models few of the same model, and one with a close serial number: Bulova 23 | myBulova.com
Confirming the date may involve opening it up, as the only reference I found mentioned the date code inside. But the site above has examples from 1955 with serial numbers on either side of yours.
Ended eBay listings vary from $35 with flaws a bit more severe than what you mentioned up to around $135 working well. However the examples I saw weren't an exact match. There were many variations of this watch: http://www.watchophilia.com/general-information/bulova-23-series/

Thanks for the information. I haven't worn a watch in over 40 years but am thinking about wearing this one. I'll probably take it to a jeweler friend to get it serviced first. Thanks Again, Steve

It's a nice watch, and with 6 adjustment was very accurate. Probably not the origional band. Tony
