Bullseye II Pinpointer issues

Howdy,

Got a few questions about the Whites Bullseye II.

This is the first pinpointer that I have ever used or seen for that matter. It only seems to find coins if I get within half inch of hitting it. So for most cases, I can't find a coin in hole but if I rub the probe along the trailings I might here a beep.
This would logically mean that I should increase the sensitivity. Yet, if I turn up the probe, it beeps/vibrates constantly regardless of proximity to metal.
For testing reasons only.... I can't find nails in a wall, or a penny under my hand.

I bought this on ebay for $90 from a store. It came new in box but just doesn't seem like it would help much.

Do I have a bad unit or am I expecting to much from a probe?

I think you have a bad unit xTo. If you turn sensitivity as high as it will go without a tone, it should pick up metal about an inch and a half away. It sounds like you might want to return it if its possible to do so.

The one I have, if I turn it till it beeps then barley back off until it stops beeping. It seems to work fine. I can also turn it a little more and it picks up from further away. You might try changing the battery, it could be week. Unless it is a new battery then it should not be week. I also turned off the vibrator. I also cant get it to pick up a penny through my hand, but it will pick it up if I just put my fingers on it.When I set it just outside the beep, it picks up a penny at about 3 to four inches. I also payed a little bit more for mine, but didn't have to pay for shipping. I would check the battery, and mess with the knob before giving up on it.

So from Mikes and my experience with the Bullseye...I am starting to think that I may be wanting more from a pinpointer. Are other pinpointers unable to find a penny under a hand?

Tell me about our pinpointer.

I have the exact same pinpointer you have & I love mine. Remember, they are not designed to find coins in 6 inches of dirt, at the very most they will beep about 1 & 1/2 inches away. If yours wont do that id send it back. Backitup has some good advice, try a brand new battery in it before you do anything.

Oh yes I love mine also. I like it because I don't have to keep getting up to see where the item is. Let us know how it works out. Did you have to send it back or did it works its self out..

Mine works the same, about an inch or so. Would you really want a pinpointer that detects six inches away? The whole hole would beep!

For some reason White's adjustable sensitivity knob can be overset to where it vibrates as soon as you hit the button, no matter what. I turn it down until it just stops vibrating, and I'm good to go. It has saved a lot of time in the short time I've used it, about 6 months.

Hey Guys,

Well, I was using the battery that came with it... so when I put a new one in, it did seem to work a bit better. Still wont detect a penny under my hand.

After using it in the field, I found that 1-1/2 is all it will do. I was looking for something to assist my lack of pinpointing skill.

Thanks for your help. I decided to keep it even though I wish it was better....guess I will have to become more skillfull and rely on tech a bit less.

:-\ I had to take mine back to the dealer to have him sent it in. The button seem to wear out less then 1 month. I had to keep pressing harder. I do miss it a lot. I wanted to buy a second to have on hand, but can't catch up to him. I had to get along with the depth finder on my DFX. work OK but a lot more digging. RC

I started detecting last November and I am on my 3rd pinpointer . The button on the the 1st two started acting up . Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't . I'd be lost without it , but I think Whites can do better , especially for the price .
