Agree, possibly civil war, but you need a measure across the bullet just before it starts to flatten out. Measure in 1/1000's inch, and you will know the caliber and more information on the bullet. Otherwise everything is just a guess, educated, but guess. Also, people still shoot some of those old guns, and replica's of the old guns, so the bullet could be modern, depending on where you found it etc. Really need more info.

Still trying to figure out what type of bullet is this? Cannonballguy do you have any suggestions?

It appears to be a modern-made imitation of a civil war Minie bullet, made for use by Blackpowder Rifle targetshooters and big-game hunters. Regretfully, I have to tell you I'm sure there is no matchup for it in any of the civil war bullet reference-books I own. It looks very close to some civil war ones, but the extreme wide spacing of the body-grooves/rings and its flat-tipped nose show it is a modern-made Minie.

Thanks for getting back to me Cannonballguy. I appreciate you taking your time to look at my bullet. The big ridges on the bullet kept throwing me off as well. I could not find anything that has large rings in the Civil War bullet photos either.
