owensboro , ky
found this years a go in bowling green KY. this bullet has been shot out of some kind of gun. the bullet is flat from hitting something but what makes it stick out in my mind is that it is kind of hollow in the back and has a five point star in it. the pix don't show it. i got a dig, cam but don't know how to take close ups yet. the bullet was scanned. i will try to get better pic, later :)

Jon,that is a .58 caliber three ring bullet fired from a model 1861 or 1863 rifled musket during the Civil war.Used by the Union army, the star in the hollow base of the bullet means that bullet was made at the Washington(D.C.) arsenal. Google search "relicman",a dealer in Civil war artifacts, for many photos and info to help identify these relics. There is some very cool stuff yet to be found!

Jon,I would be a FANATICAL relic hunter, especially for Civil War artifacts,if I lived in those parts.I view many posts of CW relic hunters and am amazed at what they find. But I hunt in Idaho, and some CW renegades and veterans came here to find gold or rob the gold miners.Even in Idaho I've found 3 Civil War uniform buttons and balls from CW era revolvers,a Sharp's ringtail bullet, and Spencer shell cases and bullets.Found an Indian wars era Cartridge belt plate(buckle)too. I hope for a CW buckle someday. It could happen!

the small one someone told me it was a cleaner bullet. the bigger one is hollow down to the 3rd ring , cone shaped. thanks for looking :)

The second one is indeed a cleaning bullet. And in great shape too. I have a couple but they are hard to find in dropped condition. There should be more of a space between the bullet and the base. The stem between the two is pretty fragile.
