I know it's lead, it looks like a miniball, its 7/16ths to 9/16ths or so in diameter, but it has that darned odd groove at the bottom, and a "teet" on the top. Sorry the pics are terrible, my crackberry does not take good pictures and i dont' have a camera. it also has two shallower grooves above the large one, i thought originally it may be an uncut sprue but the sprue end seems to be at the tip, not at the base, it does have seams like it was in a two part mold (which it would have to have been given the large groove at the base) found 2 inches down in clay soil while diggin holes for my new fence (kid was diggin, i was messing around with my MD). I live about 2 miles or so from cold harbor civil war site in va, so while there is a potential for civil war stuff, i doubt it would have been found so shallow.
