Here is a bullet I cast in a bullet mold that has been passed down in my family. I don't have the mould with me because I am out of town. It casts a round ball and a conical bullet. The diameter of the bullet is .397. The Height is .543. I don't know what it weighs. Can anyone id what guns this bullet was fired in? Thanks. Roll Tide Roll!

Probably a mold for an 1851 model, .36 caliber colts pistol, which was a cap and ball revolver. The bullets are cast oversize so that when they are loaded into the gun, a ring of lead is cut off, insuring a tight fit. If you google 1851 colt, there will be photos of the gun.

Most likely is for a .36 revolver, but not necesarily a Colt. If it is a genuine Colt mold it should be so marked. There were numerous makers of percussion revolver.

I had googled images of bullet molds and it did resemble the 1851 revolver mold. All the colt molds I saw had Colt in a semi circle. Maybe I can get a big enough magnifying glass to read the writing. I think it my be a manhattan mold. Sometimes I think it looks similar to the ones I saw. After I miked the bullet at work, I thought it might be to big for the .36 caliber. This mold either belonged to my Great-Grandfather or my G-G-Grandfather. My Grandmother couldn't remember when she gave it to my Dad before she died. I sure wish I had that pistol. And that sword they used to cut watermelons when he was a kid. Thanks for the help. Roll Tide Roll!
