So over my Thanksgiving weekend, I found this bullet mold. It looks to be made of brass. I have no idea what type of bullet it was for. I didn't get an exact measurement, but as best I can tell using a measuring tape, the widest part of the mold is a hair under .4 inches wide. Does anyone know what type of weapon these bullets would have been used with, or it's approximate age? It was found at a site that has been farmed continuously since the mid 1600's and found a stone's throw away from the Rattlesnake button. I originally posted this, along with some other nice finds in the Today's Finds forum. BuckleBoy requested I post it here, and I am equally curious. Any help in identification would be appreciated. And here are some new pictures of the cast. I will try to take some more after I scrub it a little with a toothbrush.

Need to see the mold's cavity with the dirt fully cleaned out of it for certainty of ID.

Meanwhile... it appears that your bulletmold creates a bullet which would have a "convex" solid base. If that's right, your bullet is shown in the McKee-&-Mason bullet book as bullet #157, a "Sugar Loaf Picket bullet for Country Rifle" (meaning, one of the many varieties of latter-1700s-to-early 1800s Kentucky or Pennsylvania etc rifles). The M&M books says its diameter is .419, which is quite close to your estimate.

It might be helpful to use some thick clay or plaster to make a casting from the mold's cavity, measure it precisely with digital calipers, and post photos of it.
