Hey the Joe.
Looks like you had a great day.
That whatsit definitely looks like the "nipple protectors"
listed in the book.
Sorry I missed the hunt today.
Congratulations.

I hate to ask this question, but "what is a nipple protector"?

Civil,
Congrats on the CW piece. That other bullet looks like a missle. Please don't try biting into that one. :o ;D

Well,MM,you wouldn't want your nipple bashed by a hammer, would you? ;D A soft lead ball makes a good cushion between the hammer and the nipple where the musket cap goes. Drop the hammer a few times on the ball on the nipple, and it takes the shape of both steel (or iron) parts. And the ball keeps moisture from the powder below the nipple. The protector is replaced with a cap before shooting,of course.

Sometime's they would carve bullet's into the shape where no moisture would get into the nipple of the rifle,The nipple held the percussion cap and gave spark to the powder.....moisture and the whole ignition system doesn't work all that good!! HH!

Thanks JD.
If I'm getting paid enough, feel free to pound away. :o ;D ;D

Sweet... I like the old lead.
Are those casings brass? They look like silver anti-werewolf bullets.
