Hi everyone,

I found this bullet this morning metal detecting not far from an old WW2 Airbase. I think it's a machine gun round but would appreciate any opinions on it and a date for it.

The .50 BMG has been in use for a long time, from 1910 on in various configurations and mounts. As aircraft armament it was first seen in the 1930's I'm pretty sure, as a lot of WWII aircraft even early in the war were already equipped with it.

The Browning .50 MG was first made during WW1. It never saw action in WW1 as it wasn't tested until Oct. 1918. The war ended in Nov. The M2 (nicknamed Ma Deuce) is still used today. The .50 BMG round is simply a .30-06 round scaled up. Gary
