Bullet ID

I found this at a CW skirmish site among several other CW bullets. This one is a four-ringer though. It is definately old, but I cannot find one shred of information on this bullet. Any help? I have been told that it could have been CW (an odd mold design) or even pre-date the CW. I don't know.

The only one I know of is the 4-ring Sharps, which that isn't.

Looks sorta like a galagher bullet, a metalic cartridge. The top ring is where the case was crimped upon the bullet. It is Civil War and a neat find. I aint sure thats what it is but it looks close to some that I have...d2

I'm looking all over the internet and haven't quite found a match for it yet. If it is a Galagher bullet I'll be satisfied with that. Thanks for the input guys. Maybe someone will come along who knows for sure. If I look long enough I'll discover what it is.

That's a tough one. I also have had some bullets from a battlefield that we pretty unique. They used so many different types of ammo. I looked in my nifty new CW bullet book and could not find a real close match. What type of base does it have? Teat, triangular, cone? Also look up the bottom for any markings. Definitely CW and cool too find not your average mini. Sidenote: I went to Gettysburg this past weekend and could not believe the bullet displays there. Sooooo many. Ill keep my eye out for your type.

Ronin, the bottom is cone. I can't see any markings in the bottom of it. It does seem to be CW but not the norm (if there is such a thing). I appreciate you taking a look for me. Thanks.

On Civilwarbullet.org the majority are saying that they think that it may be a galagher. The fourth ring may have been from where the cartidge was crimped. One guy said that he had seen a few that had that heavy of a crimp mark before. Though I have to say that the fourth ring is pretty deep.

I agree with d2.

Mason and McKee has it listed as MM 175 (In the cartridge section) Gallager Carbine. Thomas and Thomas as TT 75 & 76. I have found a few of the brass cartridge variety.... and mine do have that top crimp ring as well.
