Yeah that's certainly a big hunk of lead! They didn't mess around back in the day. Any idea how old that could be? I'm more trying to determine how old this area may be than anything else. Thanks again.

Ahab8,
Not sure on the .45 ACP ID. Case looks too long ( length vs width). The overall length should be just a tad over what you listed. Really helps on ID's if you get a set of digital calipers. Very inexpensive. Buttons, bullets, coins etc can often be identified by using the exact measurement. The bullet may have been pushed in or seated too deep causing it all to look a little off to me. The diameter would sure tend to make you think .45 ACP though.

Back in the day? Some of us still carry .45 ACP as we feel it is the best compromise of power and control in a pistol.

Any markings on the case base would help identify what you have. 1/16" measurements aren't really good enough. Could be a .455 Webley, etc.

What's the head stamp say? That should or could tell you if it's military or civilian, caliber, date etc.

Unfortunately I can't make out the head stamp. There's some wear that makes it illegible . I will get some digi calipers to make id of items easier. I meant no offense by my "back in the day" comment. Just assumed it was something that prob wasn't too common anymore. I appreciate everyone trying to help out. Thanks guys. I promise I will get better at this so I don't have to ask every time I find something :-)

Hey, I lived back in the day, and I'm proud of it. Keep asking. .45 ACP (automatic colt pistol) have been around since 1911, and 100 years later that cartridge is still going strong. In fact I've heard that some of our special forces are using that round over the 9mm. Being from back in the day, my short term memory leaves a bit to be desired, but I think I also heard the Marine Corps is considering going back to the .45. However, if you take that information and put a couple of dollars with it, you can probably get a cup of coffee at Starbucks. If the head stamp is eaten off your cartridge, my swag is it goes back to almost 1911.

Thank you BosnMate. I appreciate all the info and you should be proud. If only this crazy world could get back to the way things used to be we would all be better off! Thanks again
