So I know that this is a bullet, from a black powder rifle of some sort, how can you tell much more about it.......like is it old or new, thanks for any ideas and help.

Your bullet is a copper-jacketed one, from the 20th-Century. Copper-jacketed bullets are not made for use in blackpowder firearms. Based on size-comparison in the photo, your bullet seems to be just a little bit more than half the width of a dime, so it is probably for a .38-caliber pistol, but I can't say for certain without a very-precise measurement of its diameter.
