hi found I found this bullet hunting a school that was built in 1953 was really surprised when I dug it as I have never found any off this type here in eastern montana thus I have no idea wat it is bullet od is jest under 1/2 inch length jest over 1 inch and 1 oz in weight I am new at detecting so don't have a lot off experience with this type of bullet and wat something like this would be doing here in montana as when I whent on line looks like most off them come from way east of here IMG_0455 (1).JPG

It may be from the later 1800's after the Civil War. Maybe a 45-70 or 50-90 or some other such lever gun. Just a guess...d2

My first guess is 45-70. 1870's army was .45 caliber, 405 grain bullet. Later on bullet weights varied. According to Google, one oz = 437.5 grains. So without exact measurements, .45 is almost 1/2 inch, and 405 grains is just about an oz. Now that's a SWAG if I ever heard one. (SWAG = scientific wild azzed guess)

Could you put it next to a penny or something? I shoot a modern 40-70 and that doesn't look big enough.
