Bullet ID. Anyone have info on this bullet I found south of Richmond?

Looks like a civil war era unfired Volcanic bullet, for handguns. But that type had a large plug in its base, so we need you to provide a base-view photo to confirm your bullet's identity as a Volcanic.

We also need a precise measurement of your bullet's diameter, to tell you its caliber. Volcanic bullets came in .32 and .41-caliber.

Thank you for making and posting the additional photos, with precise measurement. It is a .577/58-caliber bullet, which excludes it from being a Volcanic bullet. It is what the McKee-&-Mason book on civil war bullets calls a "re-cut mold" Minie-bullet. Generally believed to be Confederate-made, and it is a scarce version.
