In the same area that I found that old Black Powder pistol I also found this old bullet head, but the funny thing about it is that it has these funny looking stoppers one on each end, even at the back the section that goes into the cartridge, I have no idea which gun it comes from, but it must be very old indeed, maybe somebody can shed some light about this and even post a pic of the gun that it comes from, even which year it is from, but I recon maybe mid 1800's.

Thankyou

Are the stoppers made of wood?

I am not too sure, but if I bite them, they seem to be like cley or sand or such?

Yes, clay was used as well. These were generally used in the snider & Lee Enfield of the 1860s - onwards

The bullet appears to have lube grooves, commonly called grease grooves. That tells me it is a cartridge bullet rather than a muzzle loader. Not knowing the diameter and weight of the bullet makes it a little difficult to identify the particular cartridge it is from. Might be a Martini or perhaps even a Mauser that the Boers used in the Boer war?Monty

I thought the martini-henry were a taller/thinner bullet. The snider was the first experiemental breach loader, that why I thought of it. But as you say, its guess work without sizes.

Not saying you are wrong, just expanding on possibilities. Could be about any older cartridge common to Africa depending on size. Monty
