I dislike stirring up the pond when the ID has been agreed to. When I first saw the photo of the bullet I thought it was a late-1800s/early-1900s version of .45-70 rifle bullet. But the finder says it is "narrower than a .45 ACP or .45 Colt." And, in the photo next to those .45 bullets, it does look smaller in diameter. If that's not an optical illusion, it might be a .40-60 Marlin Model-1881 Rifle bullet, or a .40-65 Winchester Model-1886 Rifle bullet. We need the finder to borrow a Digital Caliper and give us a precise measurement to confirm his statement that his bullet is "narrower than a .45"... and thus is not a .45-70 bullet.
