I would guess .45-70 or something like that. And the Company that made the knife started in the late 1790's but yours may be WWII vintage or earlier. Great finds...d2

These come from a cabin that operated at a mine in the late 1800's

What are the markings, if any, on the bottom of the cartridge case? They should identify the cartridge and possibly the weapon it was used in.

There is no markings on the bottom.all I know it is big

Can you measure the casing only and show a pic of the primer area .I found a casing only that looks just like that but is smashed some . No marking or writing on the case at all . It is 5/8th wide and 1 3/4 long .
