I'm gonna say based my reference that it's either a .577 cal or .54 cal 3 ring percussion cap rifle musket. I'm from MD myself Silver Run area. I think I have 3 off these but I think I may have them listed as .58 cal on my blog. I have pics out there.

Dnewbury2's "it looks similar" ID is correct... it is an unfired civil war US .54 Merrill Carbine bullet. This one's original .550" diameter appears to have been reduced to .520" by more than a century of burial in "wet" acidic ground. See bullet #91-B in the updated "Handbook Of Civil war Bullets & Cartridges" by James E. Thomas and Dean S. Thomas.
