Man I hate to do this but...BUMP...I showed this to a friend of mine this morning. He says that he believes that it dates to 1820-40's. It looks like redware to me. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't seen another like it anywhere's on the web. Swiz

Is the top glass?
Intact, no chips?
Need a couple better photos, but that thing looks real nice.

What a great find :icon_thumleft:

Like daroofa says, it will be helpful to know; what are the words on the glass?

A couple of observations;
I'm presuming you know it's definitely a striker, as I'm no expert.
According to wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Match
the first friction match was invented in 1826, so your friend's thought on its age, is interesting.

The dog looks more like a Pug dog, than a Bull dog.

The glass is quite possibly Uranium Glass.
I'm looking forward to learning more.

Cheers, Mike

Sorry about the misleading first pic. That's actually a bottle with the top knocked off it that I dug. its a Lactopeptine and has nothing to do with the dog. I just thought it was cool how well it fit on his head and made it look like a crown of sorts. Well if match strikers were made in 1823 then when did redware go out of popularity? Maybe that could help me pin down the date a little bit better. Now that you mention it it does look more like a pug. Thanx for the replys everyone and have a great day. Swiz

I hate to do it but one last bump before I let this one disappear into the archives. Would anyone know where else I could post this to get more info on it? I appreciate all of your help and helpful attempts. Thanx you everyone and have a great summer. Swiz
