Hallways are such wasted space so I built a bunch of cabinets INTO the walls....like an old time bathroom medicine chest. I pass through the hall maybe 30 times a day and always get to look at my "stuff". And since they are not in frames I get to pick them up and play with them too. (like a kid with his toys). Anyway...this is a shot of some of my bigger stuff put together, pestles, net shuttles, adz blades etc. Now my question is this...notice the pestle with the interesting top...would you call that an "effigy" ...perhaps a bear?

With all due respect, your limited skills make some craftsman cry to be able to do as good. Many thanks for shareing your fine collection.:icon_thumright:

I agree, real good work.

Cool! ''Now your talking'' That's a really nice idea! :icon_thumleft:

Many thanks...it is amazing what you can do with a keyhole saw and a lot of time on your hands. The secret is not to rush it....I mean to say...if you are going to have something forever, does it matter if it takes a month to make or a week?

see, key hole saw. I was doin some drywall and my buddies called it a dry wall saw or a poke saw. I call it a keyhole. by goodness.

which is what it is!

dern right, sometimes the guys I work with really get me to wonderin.:BangHead:

kids! I had a woman I work with me irritate me once by trying to tell how to do something I had mastered before she was a twinkle in her daddy's eye...so I told her "go teach your grandmother to suck eggs".....she thought it was some kind of sexual harassment!!!! (as if)

I like it when somebody asks if a wall is level.

you just made me laugh out loud...

What a neat idea unclemac! An excellent use of space to show off your finds!

thanks Charmin, it is pretty easy to do too....locate the studs in the wall....saw out the shape you want (be careful to avoid wires)...make a box that fits the recessed space and fasten it to the studs. I take the boxes and doors to a glazier to fit the glass (not expensive). The backs are wide copper flashing (because it is thin) but it could be any other material. A router and a drill are nice to have and easy to use with a little practice. I really like the paint job and if you notice...it is inspired by "South Park"...the trees are very simple...not artistic, pure "technique"....using masking tape and a cheap 99 cent brush.

Most of all I like that this "wasted space" (a hallway) becomes useful.

I am very impressed! Your cases look like some I've seen in favorite antique stores.
