Building your own MD

I want to try to build my own Metal detector, have any of you done this? I don't have any equipment to sodder so hopefully that's not necessary.

im looking for any good guide's on how to do this, so far this is the best one I have found http://home.clara.net/saxons/bfo.htm but its still a bit confusing, there any other easy guides to follow for just a basic MD.. along the line of building MDs for dummies :P

Picked up an old radio for free, one of those large radio/amp/tape deck deals, the guide said transistor radio but hopefuly that one would still have the parts needed? if not will try to find the rest.

any info & help on this would be great

Thanks, though didn't see any thing like that on there site, a kit would be nice but prob too expensive any way only looking to spend no more then $10 on it, im broke

for the transistor radio should be able to pick one up at the thrift shop for a few bucks (have seen them there before)

did find a few better guides in PDF format and it does help bit easier to follow but still looks very complex, and they say those there are the easiest ones req under 20 components. and you do have to solder so guess I am screwed there, that BFO guide didn't say any thing about soldering also said cost nothing if have a transistor radio and easy to do bla bunch of bull

Just trying to do this because my plans fell through on buying the cheap radio shack, still want to get into this hobby but keep hitting brick walls and bad luck

Look at kenneke.com for a $19.95 metal detector kit. Illustration doesn't show a stem & coil, making it seem like it's intended for wall searches.

ask on the finds treasure modifaction forums there is a site which gets into building mds.but i dont remember the name of the site..someone on finds will know ..jesse

I believe you can buy a $29 metal detector from http://www.HarborFreightusa.com already built.
I think you will need to solder a homemade job.

Hi Carl.....nice see you here too, ......well guys this is the one i?ve built from Carl?s PI design, but with some mods comparing to the original design, man.....this is a deep machine for beach hunting and is tuned for yellow goodies (specially rings) !
