Building a Coin Cabinet

Your question is too vague to answer. How big ? Wall-hung, or free-standing ? So on and so forth. You might do a web search for display cases to get some ideas.

If you need something custom-built, PM me (but I don't work cheap !)

Pick up an old oak machinists tool box. $150.00 to $250.00 online.

Been thinking about that myself.

Vintage Dental Cabinets would be a great way to show your coins. They can be found from $250 and up...or you could build something along the same design.

Old wooden "flat files" (used to be used to store drawings) would be good too. Might find used ones at a used office equipment store.

I seen one before I really liked but cant find it any more. But maybe you'll get the picture. Here goes.

Cut a plexi-glass sheet into 3 equal 20 x 20 (Size is adjustable for taste), take one sheet and drill a row of 1" holes across the top part, the move down between 1/2 and 1" start another row this time start in the middle between the first and second hole and end between the second to last and last, now move down 1/2 to 1" and start another row starting the same as the first do this till the whole sheet is drilled. Now the three sheets can be bolted together with the holed sheet in the middle. This will be where the coins will be placed. By being clear both side can be viewed. Now it can be wall mounted or make a plaxi-glass base for it to free stand.

I like that! You could get black foam and cut it to fit the drawer and punch holes that would fit air tight coin holders.

Do some research first and be careful, some woods, wood finishes, plastics, foam and other materials can be harmful to coins. Some of these can cause coins to tarnish, discolor or corrode.
