Headed out this afternoon to a pasture field (still no ploughed land). Wasn't expecting much, due to the bone dry soil conditions. I was surprised though by the amount of signals, don't get me wrong not loads but enough. I gave the field about three hours before calling it a day. I found a couple of Georgian buckles and a 1886 queen Victoria silver three pence coin.

Robert.

Buckles tend to be common finds in England, especially the later Georgian ones. Makes you wonder why they lost so many.

[/quote Yes this type usually comes up broken, I have though found the odd complete one.

This time of year, I would call that a successful day. I may have some newly hayed fields this weekend but its going to be concret solid clay :P

Common or not, the buckles are a darn good find in my books.

More people = more buckles lost?

I tend to find more of the later horse tack buckles too rather than the earlier ones.

Cool finds. Congrats on getting a bit of silver despite the dry soil conditions.

Nice buckles, congratulations. The last is particularly interesting.
