Buckles, Buttons & Wazzits

Hi Everyone,

In yesterday's post I showed my first Standing Liberty Quarter and a large copper token.
From the same site - here are the rest of the finds:

3232011finds.jpg
Assortment of buckles (one still with a bit of leather) pocketwatch frame, buttons (middle one is metal), Indiana dog tax tag

No idea what this is. 1 3/4 x 1 1/4

Some kind of saddle/harness decoration?

I appreciate any and all feedback, as I'm still learning how to ID relics.

Happy Hunting!

"saddle/harness decoration"

Look more like knife, blade guards: Might try the what is it section on some of this stuff.

Re: Buckles, Buttons & Wazzits

Those dang iron rings from horse harnesses will get ya everytime. I don't care what kind of machine you have. They sound just good enough that you can't pass up digging them, and when you open the hole, they start to pinpoint to one side of the hole. RRRRR!!. >:( Cool finds!

From one Hoosier digger to another,
HH!! :hello:

It DOES look like a knife/dagger guard. The rusted bits on the back crumbled when I pulled it out of the hole - it looked more like a clip or "teeth" to hold it in place.

On my machine, they always come up as silver and usually as a half dollar. I've dug so many, that I just assume it'll be a harness ring. One day, I'll be pleasantly surprised!

Beautiful Indiana weather this past week - woke up to an icy windshield and spitting snow this morning. Grrr.
