found these this past weekend. My grandfather took me up on the mountain to an old wagon road which connected two towns just outside of Reading PA. A few years back he had found a 1850 half dime and a large coach spring. I found the bullet and the buckle within a few feet of each other and the melted lead drop in another spot.

Is this a belt buckle or shoe buckle? There seems to be a mark or symbol on the back of it.

also the bullet seems to have one ring around it. Could it be from the same era?

Thanks for looking.

The buckle looks to be a belt buckle, not a shoe buckle. The contruction is a little different in all the shoe buckles I have found and seen.

The bullet I'm not sure of... Do you have a better pic of just the bullet, maybe head on the ring... It looks like the ring is dotted?

Yes the ring on the bullet is dotted. I will try to get a better picture of it tonight.

I beleive it's a "modern" full metal jacket pistol bullet.

What does the back of the buckle look like? Anything missing?

The second picture is the back of the buckle. I can't see where anything may have broken off. the only oddity is this small emblem or oval depression.

So the front and back of the buckle are the same. I would say that's odd for a buckle. Usually the part that is "underneath" a maker won't mess with. It takes too much time for some thing that won't show. Maybe the buckle people have other examples of ones that are the same front and back but it sure is unusual to me.

The depression may be what's left of a maker's mark.

Anything that looks like a buckle but isn't??

Hey Daryl, if you look closely, the tongue notch has a turn in for securing it to the leather. Its missing a piece, but I'm pretty sure its an old belt buckle.

I don't think it's a buckle at all since it doesn't have the bar across the middle to attach it to the belt. Some kind of cinch perhaps with the hangy down part fitting into a hole in the material? Puzzling. M ??? nty
