Hello All,

We can't hit the good stuff every trip. This post will keep me humble. Went out with my wife to play in the dirt...or perhaps I should say mud. South Louisiana was a muddy mucky mess. I was sinking into the muck in my shrimp boots! Anyhow, I got a couple pieces: part of a spur, a brass scale arm, a nice brick red clay pipe, small piece of a cross, and a "mickey mouse" style lock. I've heard that the locks are late 1700s finds, but haven't found any definitive documentation on that as of yet. I also got a complete heel plate that was very deep, close to a foot down. Diggergirl got a couple marbles, wheat penny, and some random bits. Nothing worth making a video for.

...so we willl get 'em next time. Happy Holidays All, and enjoy the pics,

Buck

Nice finds, I like the glass stopper!

Hey, BB! Nothing wrong with those finds! My finds weren't any better than that today..........but this is the the first time I have been able to dig on Xmas! (normally frozen!)
Your lock is just like ones I have dug on Georgian sites in England.

Merry Christmas!

BB, what part of South Louisiana exactly? I spend some time in the Houma area (wife has family there) and plan to hit up some of the old stuff based on old maps. I only go there for like a week to 10 days at a time, maybe just a time or two a year.

I guess compared to the bountiful hunts that you have had this one grounds you so to speak, but still there's enough to scratch an itch and getting out and getting dirty with your wife at your side-now that's on the want list for many lonely guy.

The thing is even on the days that don't produce well you still never know how close you were to something great which would turned your hunt from so-so to fantastic.

You didn't get silver every hunt but your finds say it's not far away! I like your finds especially the red clay pipe. Never seen one before! :icon_thumleft:

Was that pipe on top of the ground? That color is unique and beautiful. Nice stopper, pottery, lock, spur.....wait, you say this isn't a good hunt? I could show you a piece of a harmonica reed and a splatted round ball if that will make you feel better. Those are the good finds from my Christmas Eve hunt lol. Glad you and the lady spent some quality time.

That's why I post up clad, etc. Keeps me humble. :) I'm one of the humblest out there! LOL

At least you know you'll eventually be posting all those wonderful old keepers!

Thanks for helping me to feel a bit more normal. :)

Nice!

The rest of the goodies just have to come up for air and you'll be right there!

A bad hunt is better than no hunt and better with the wife glad you all had fun happy huntinn

Quote me
"everyday can't be rainbows, and lollypops."

That said I don't recall a red clay pipe before, so that is pretty cool.

I know exactly what it is like to get less than you "expect", but in the end it really is more about the trip than the trinkets. You'll remember how deep, sticky, and heavy that muck was longer than you would remember another so-so type of find. Being able to share a hunt is ...well priceless.

Hey Buck!! Everybody gets Humbled!! At Least You're still Married and Diggergirl lets you Hunt!! Hope Ya'll have a Great Holiday Season!! GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

I'm struggling to dig 500 CW relics myself BB. Need 9 more after today. I dug a cast iron heel plate exactly like that ton the Confederate retreat route from the Battle of Hartsville when they left with nearly 1,400 Union prisoners. Is that a U.S. Regulation style spur? I bet Molly eyeballed most of the surface finds. I'll tell you what Cannoball Guy told me recently. "A bad day to you would be a good day for others". Happy New Year to you two fine people, Q.

Making memories with your sweetheart is the best treasure! Wishing you and "your girl" many more exciting adventures in the future years to come!!

BB,
You dug your Barber quarter so you are done for the year Sir! :occasion14:
If you need me to send you some adult sized boots let me know. I hate to see you squeezing into "shrimp boots". :laughing7:
Happy Holidays to you and Molly. Did Q send you a picture of the Tenn Trio for your fireplace mantel?
Cheers,
DUG
