Hi,

Recently found this belt buckle/strap metal detecting. It appears to be dollar coin sized and is made out of copper or brass. Any insight into what it could be is greatly appreciated.

Your solid brass disc's "dollar-coin-size" diameter and having a large brass-wire "staple" on its back means it is definitely a horse-bridle rosette. Here's a photo showing the MIlitary version, used by the US Army from 1902 up to the present. Note the "reverse-image" of the Great Seal Of The United States visible on the brass disc's back. Your blank-front one is civilian.

Cannonballguy nailed it. I found one last year on a farm which is identical.
