All I can say is that it's closer to 1824 than 1980. I like the hand hammered edges. Nice Victorian double prong buckle!

That is in beautiful condition for any age underground. Are you sure it isn't Gold? :o

Usually it's the style of Buckle which determins the age, not the material.Brass a alloy of copper and zinc has been used in buckle making for hundreds of years.
Brass buckle's frequently had iron bars, chapes and prongs.The chapes sometimes had spikes, this alone is not a indicater of age. Gold was also used, but the only Gold Buckles which you may find, are the tiny ones from ladie's watch straps,
The one posted looks like Brass, and judging from the shape and design, very late 1800s, to early 1900s :icon_thumleft:
