Hmmm yea, but don't most have the 3 or 4 studs? But multiple tongues are for preventing twisting, like on shoes, or when used with fabric.

Yes I hear you...what's got me puzzled also :icon_scratch: is the tongues are individual and not on a spindle :dontknow: this might be quite a early buckle :dontknow:

If it's not military, I agree, probably early. Stocks come in in the late 17th c. (military fashion, but not military issue).

It is certainly dainty for it's size. :icon_scratch: but also not a typical rounded early buckle. :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:
