Buckle With a "B"
Hello Everyone!
I found this buckle while hunting in a creek. I live in Humboldt Tennessee. There was some civil war activity here though I rarely find anything dating back that far. Probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I thought it unusual that a monogram buckle would have just a plain old B stamped on it if were made for some individual.
It is approximately 1 and 1/2 inches tall by 1 and 1/4. Its color makes me think it is of copper, brass, or some copper alloy.
I found this site through my research which led me to blanket roll buckles, and read the interesting thread about harness buckles being mistakingly identified as such. I had also considered the possibility of a gun-sling buckle.
I surely would appreciate any help anyone may give me as to possible age, origin, or value of this buckle. I am very interested in metal detecting and love all things old. I lean a little more towards indian artifacts and antique bottles, but am excited at the prospects of finding civil war relics in my area. If this isn't it, maybe I will get it next time.
Great Site you guys have here, hope to be back soon.
