✅ SOLVED Buckle of sorts

I recently found this in a historic part of town, and I'm pretty sure I saw one like it posted on here recently but I can't remember what it was determined to be. Note the two tiny holes on the outer edges.

I would imagine it's some part of a suspender buckle

I kind of thought the same, I just wasn't sure.
Surprisingly I didn't see one exactly like it but thats close enough for gov't work.

I think that GH is correct. There was a little decorative piece that fit over the top of the buckle.
