I'm sure this is probably a common buckle but I need help with ID please.

I was hunting a field that had at one time held a couple of 1930's homes (torn down now but may have had something there previously) I swung for about 30 minutes without finding much but on one swing hit two high tones. I chose to dig the one on the left first and out comes this buckle made from bronze or brass - the first I've seen in this area - the other signal was a Merc. I hunted about 30 more min and had to leave due to time. Nada.

The next Saturday Carolina Tom and Beez0404 went back for a couple of hours and nada again. All was not lost as the next spot gave up Jay's Morgan dollar!

Thanks!

Definitely a horse tack buckle, a knee buckle would not have the rod and frame be one pieces, the rod would go through a hole through the frame on a shoe buckle. Being that it is made out of brass instead of modern chrome covered steel it is most likely fairly old, it may be from the 1800's but there is no definite way to tell.

I agree horse tack, probably brass, hard to date though, might just fall into the 1800s
