Is that the date 1855?ive seen some close but older ... 1780 to 1820? someone will get it..goodluck

The 1855 date seems right to me.

Thanks for the input, I found this in the same hole with a corroded 1787 NJ Copper.

Found one similar not too long ago...mine didn't have the numbers however it was identified as a shoe buckle ca. 1720-1790. I hope this helps!

Similiar in the fact it was a buckle but the one in question is no way from the 1700s.

Would like to see your's, have a pic? :-X

Perhaps he is referring to the one pictured here (#40) http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ceejays_site/pages/bucklepage20.htm which dates to the 1770's to 1790's, close but not exact. So tell me, given your obvious expertise in antique buckles and given the size of this one and the flatness of it, what was it used for? Care to elaborate with your vast knowledge of the subject? ???
