I have always understood those to be suspender buckles. I have one that says Paris on it and one with just the date of 1861. I think they are neat finds.

There was another discussion about a similar buckle's possible relationship to the Zouave uniform... but of course, this one is stamped "Germany" instead. I think rather than it being a CW relic, it's probably just a similar variety of a common style.

I do believe it to be part of a suspender buckle also, by the size and the tine/s that would be the use for it. I can offer no information on the 3 G's and Germany :) Suspender buckles for the most part have Pat Numbers and other writings on them more than a normal buckle would.

Yeah, I had figured suspender buckle, I was courios about maker, and the 3 "G"s, and the word SOLIDE

If you'll read the other thread, you'll see that the one there actually says "SOLIDE" as well... :wink:
